Macedonian Wedding (Macedonian and Balkan Dance and customs) : Gary Dawson and Yorgo Kaporis
This year we have a very special event happening at the camp – a Macedonian Wedding! Our two fantastic Balkan dance teachers Gary Dawson and Yorgo Kaporis will be teaching the dances and customs involved in the wedding and camp participants will be part of the festivities leading up to and at the event on the Saturday evening.
Yorgo Kaporis will be teaching the customs and dances for the bride's family and Gary Dawson will be teaching the customs and dances for the groom's family. All skill levels will be catered to.
Musicians and singers will also be learning the music and songs for the wedding and “wedding guests” from many different regions will be “performing” at the wedding.
The wedding is set to be a wonderful event bringing together the whole of the camp in a fun and fully interactive celebration!
Other Dance Related Activities
Poi workshop: Belladonna (Materials charge $2.00 per person for set of Poi)
Poi and fire spinning fun for all the Kids aged (8 to 80).Younger children may need adult assistance. (No fire will be used in the workshops)
And for Belly dancers add a totally new dimension to your repertoire with POI ( New Zealand art of ball spinning). Poi can also be used with coloured ribbons to suit your costume.
Poi 1: In the first part of the workshop Belladonna will show you a simple method of Poi making. We will then learn some Poi spinning techniques with your very own Poi. Please bring plastic bags for inside of Poi (if possible)
Poi 2: Now you have the basics Belladonna will teach you some more exciting Poi movements. We will also recap on how to make our own Poi.
